VFW Post 2913 has been very fortunate to partner with Dr. Steve Brook and his staff at Country Foot Care who runs an annual drive to collect Shoes for the Homeless. What makes this program so unique is that while many people will donate to homeless causes they often tend to forget about donating shoes.
Shoes transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally. – Christian Louboutin
Starting this year some of the shoes collected at Country Foot care will go directly to our homeless veterans, many who have problems with their feet from their service but are unable to afford a pair of good shoes. So far some of the shoes gathered have gone to United Veterans Beacon House which manages and supports 34 housing locations in Nassau and Suffolk County, and also too Utica Veterans Outreach Center, a homeless shelter and food pantry for veterans in Upstate New York who need assistance getting back on their feet and providing for their families.
As more shoes come in they will be distributed where needed as to not go to waste, and where they can best be used to help our homeless veterans. A big thank you goes out to Dr. Brook and his staff at Country Foot care you collects and sorts through the shoes that are donated.
