Sr. Vice Commander Dave Rogers dropped off the last of the shoes collected during Dec and Jan at Country Foot Care to the United Veterans Beacon House. To date almost 500 pairs of shoes (a value of about 12,000 dollars) has been collected and distributed to United Beacon House and Utica Veterans Outreach Center. VFW Post 2913 has been very fortunate to partner with Dr. Steve Brook and his staff at Country Foot Care who runs an annual drive to collect Shoes for the Homeless. What makes this program so unique is that while many people will donate to homeless causes they often tend to forget about donating shoes.
Shoes transform your body language and attitude. They lift you physically and emotionally. – Christian Louboutin
We will be looking to do another shoe drive in July, and plan on other drives and donation to support Homeless Veterans across Long Island. It is estimated that about 1/3 of all veterans on Long Island are either homeless are living in shelters, transition housing or are struggling to pay their rent. We will continue to do all we can to support them and the programs that help them.
